Itinerary Overview

Day 1

Day 1: Antananarivo – Sambava

Arrive at Sambava Airport, transfer to your hotel, and receive a tour briefing. In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour, including a visit to the beautiful Ampandrozonana Beach. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 2

Day 2: Sambava – Marojejy

Start your day early, leaving Sambava at 6 a.m. Arrive at the Manantenina welcome office by 7 a.m. and take a short drive to the village of Mandena. Begin your trek at 7:30 a.m. to Camp Mantella, arriving around 11:30 a.m. After lunch, visit Humbert Waterfall and continue hiking to Camp II. On the way, you may encounter the rare “Simpona” or silky sifaka lemur, which is endemic to this region. Dinner and overnight at Camp II Marojejy.

Day 3

Day 3: Summit of Marojejy

After an early breakfast, hike for approximately three hours to reach the summit of Marojejy at an altitude of 2,132 meters. Weather permitting, enjoy stunning 360° views of the surrounding region. Descend to Camp III for lunch and return to Camp II in the afternoon for another opportunity to spot the silky sifaka. Dinner and overnight at Camp II Marojejy.

Day 4

Day 4: Marojejy to Andapa

Enjoy a relaxed morning at Camp II before descending to the village of Mandena, a trek that takes approximately 3–4 hours. From Mandena, transfer by car to Andapa, a picturesque town surrounded by fertile valleys and lush scenery. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Andapa.

Day 5

Day 5: Andapa to Sambava

Depart Andapa after breakfast for a visit to Beanatsomanga, where you’ll learn about local fish farming practices and the challenges faced by the community. Enjoy a traditional lunch prepared in the Beanatsomanga style. In the early afternoon, return to Sambava (a 3-hour drive). Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Sambava.

Day 6

Day 6: Sambava to Vohemar

After breakfast, travel to Vohemar (a 3.5-hour drive). Along the way, visit Plaideau Village, also known as “Andripatra,” which is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes featuring green dunes, mangroves, canyons, and red Tsingy. After a picnic lunch, visit the enchanting Green Lake (Lac Sacré d’Andranotsara), a site steeped in legend. Dinner and overnight at Hôtel Square de Vohemar.

Day 7

Day 7: Vohemar to Antalaha via Daraina

Begin your day with a visit to Daraina, a historic gold-mining village located 50 km north of Vohemar. Take a guided walk through the surrounding forests, where you may encounter traditional gold miners and spot the golden-crowned sifaka lemur in the Loky Manambato protected area. After lunch in Vohemar, continue your journey to Antalaha. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Antalaha.

Day 8

Day 8: Antalaha and Ambohimanitra Estate

Spend the morning exploring Antalaha, a charming coastal town known as the vanilla capital of the world. Visit the Ambohimanitra Estate, where you’ll learn about vanilla cultivation, from pollination to processing. Enjoy a vanilla-infused meal with panoramic views. Dinner and overnight at Domaine d’Ambohimanitra.

Day 9

Day 9: Ambohimanitra to Sambava

Return to Sambava, stopping at the Edmond Albius Museum to uncover the fascinating history of vanilla. In the afternoon, visit a vanilla processing center to witness the steps involved in preparing vanilla for export, including harvesting, curing, and grading. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Sambava.

Day 10

Day 10: Sambava to Antananarivo

After breakfast, transfer to Sambava Airport for your flight to Antananarivo, marking the end of your SAVA region adventure.
